Method 1: Set Microphone as Default Device
To make microphone work properly, you need to set the microphone as default device. This method has worked for many users who have microphone problem like you.
Follow steps below:
1) Right-click the Speaker Icon at the bottom right corner. A context menu will pop up.
2) Click Recording devices on the pop-up menu.
3) In Sound dialog box, click the Recording tab. If you see the Microphone is not set as Default Device, click the Set Default button to set it to default.
Note: The device name might not be Microphone and the icon might not be in shape of a Microphone in your computer.
4. Click OK > Apply.
Method 2: Unmute Mocrophone and Increase the Volume
One possible reason that microphone doesn’t work could be muted microphone and low volume. So you should check if the microphone is muted and the volume is too low.
Follow steps below:
1) Right-click the Speaker Icon at the bottom right corner. A context menu will pop up.
2) Click Recording devices on the pop-up menu.
3) In Sound dialog box, click the Recording tab. Select the default microphone then click the Properties button.
4) Click the Levels tab. If volume is muted, you will see the sound icon display like this: . In that case, click it to unmute the microphone. And make sure the volume is set to 50 or higher.
5) After resetting, click OK and Apply.
Method 3: Update All Drivers
Driver conflicts may cause this problem. To resolve the problem, you can try to update the drivers.
You can update the drivers manually. But if you don’t have the time, patience or computer skills to update the drivers manually, you can do it automatically with Driver Easy.
Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it. You don’t need to know exactly what system your computer is running, you don’t need to risk downloading and installing the wrong driver, and you don’t need to worry about making a mistake when installing.
You can update your drivers automatically with either the FREE or the Pro version of Driver Easy. But with the Pro version it takes just 2 clicks (and you get full support and a 30-day money back guarantee):
1) Download and install Driver Easy.
2) Run Driver Easy and click Scan Now. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.
3) Click the Update button next to all flagged devices to automatically download and install the correct version of their driver (you can do this with the FREE version). Or click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system (this requires the Pro version – you’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All).
Hope the tips above help you resolve microphone not working issue. If you have any questions, please leave your comment below. We’d love to hear of any comments and suggestions.
